Nashville Post: Labor groups endorse Clemmons for mayor

Labor and activist groups are already starting to weigh in on the upcoming August Metro elections, with mayoral candidate John Ray Clemmons securing the biggest prizes for now.

The Central Labor Council endorsed Clemmons, a Democratic state representative, over incumbent Mayor David Briley, At-large Metro Councilmember John Cooper and former Vanderbilt professor Carol Swain, the top contenders for the job.

The group of affiliated labor groups made the endorsement after collecting questionnaires and interviewing candidates. The CLC also endorsed seven candidates in the crowded race for five at-large seats on the council, in addition to endorsements in several district races.
