"In furtherance of my overall campaign to be an OPEN and ACCESSIBLE member of the Metro Council, I feel that it is important to have a page solely devoted to my positions on important issues facing the 18th District and our city. To be truly “open,” I feel that it is imperative that I clearly state my opinion on important issues rather than use vague political jargon so that you know where I stand."
-John Ray Clemmons As a homeowner on Belmont Boulevard, I am very aware of the traffic issues within our community. Traffic issues in District 18 range from speeding cars on Belmont Boulevard or 21st Avenue and traffic jams in Hillsboro Village to motorists who do not respect pedestrians, bicyclists, and scooter riders.
We have all heard the screeching tires in front of our homes, witnessed the rear end collisions, been caught in lunch hour traffic, or had a near miss while crossing the street. These are problems which can be resolved with innovative thinking and proper planning.
Under former Councilman Keith Durbin’s leadership and with the assistance and cooperation of business owners, university officials, and urban planners, meetings have taken place at which various factors and solutions have been discussed. Another such meeting will be taking place in the coming weeks under the leadership of At-Large Council member Megan Barry.
We must evaluate and consider all possible solutions to our traffic issues. We must continue to work towards resolving these problems as they affect each and every one of us.
