"In furtherance of my overall campaign to be an OPEN and ACCESSIBLE member of the Metro Council, I feel that it is important to have a page solely devoted to my positions on important issues facing the 18th District and our city. To be truly “open,” I feel that it is imperative that I clearly state my opinion on important issues rather than use vague political jargon so that you know where I stand." -John Ray Clemmons I am “PRO NEIGHBORHOOD.”
Because this is a vague and often abused political catchphrase, I want to be clear about what this statement means when I say it.
The historical character and architectural integrity of our neighborhoods MUST be protected.
My only loyalties are to the neighborhoods and residents of the 18th District. When evaluating any proposal or issue, my first consideration will be “what impact, if any, will the proposal or issue have on the character of our neighborhoods and each resident’s qualify of life?”
As a member of the Metro Council, I will work to protect the unique character of our community while consistently seeking ways to improve our neighborhoods and each resident’s quality of life.
Our neighborhoods are the center of our daily life. Our neighborhoods even define us, as residents, to some extent. We all chose to live here for one reason or another. While different aspects of this area may have appealed to each of us for different reasons, we can all agree that it is the combination of many characteristics that makes the neighborhoods of the 18th District truly unique.
The 18th District is comprised of many different people and families. Our friendly, socially diverse, and active community complements the unique nature of the 18th District. Just as each person and family deserves our city’s protection, the character and integrity of our neighborhoods deserve to be protected as well.
We are all a part of this community, and each of us must do our part to maintain its beauty and historical character. As a member of the Metro Council, I will lead the effort to do just that. I am very proud of the community in which I live and will work tirelessly to make the residents of the 18th District proud of their representative on the Metro Council.
